Special Committees

Special Committees: Diverse Challenges, Distinct Voices

Special Committees, directed by Jeronimo F. is a unique arrangement of committees, each committee based on a different subject or even style of debate. You will find special characteristics within each committee such as use of Spanish instead of the widespread use of English.

IEA (High School)
Known as the International Energy Agency, this committee tries to find a solution to the European energy crisis amidst the Russia-Ukraine war. This crisis has been raging since the beginning of the war, as the widely used Russian fuel was embargoed in Europe. However some countries in Europe have violated the embargo leading to controversies within the EU.

CONMEBOL (Middle School)
The South American Football Confederation is a committee based on controversies that have struck the Estadio Libertadores de América. The case which this is based on was a game between “Independiente” and “Universidad de Chile” where Universidad de Chile opened the score, leading their crowd to begin throwing projectiles towards the opposing tribune, this intensified at the throwing of firecrackers. The Local crowd consequently started a brawl against the opposing crowd members and tribune leading to 2 deaths and 19 hospitalized Chilean crowd members.

Senado de la República (High School) 
Also known as the Senate of the Republic, el Senado de la Republica is a committee in Spanish based within the Mexican Senate. This committee searches to define the use of obligatory ID for internet users, which can lead to decreases in fraud and unauthorized use of the internet, however leads to violations of privacy or even the right of free speech. This committee poses a heavy challenge towards parties opposing Morena and allies due to Morena's overwhelming majority in the senate.

Legislatura de Querétaro (High/Middle School) 
This Spanish committee searches to solve the ongoing water shortages in Queretaro. This committee poses an interesting question as practically the whole legislature is divided between the two opposing dominant parties Morena and PAN, where negotiations with the intermediary parties will be beneficial.

DISEC (High School)
The Disarmament and International Security Committee seeks to find a solution towards the illicit trade of firearms around the world. By inducing the national laws which the DISEC committee will discuss, the world hopes to see a decrease in terrorism, organized crime, human trafficking and other forms of human-rights-violating processes.
